And the loadstone, whilst it lies in the filings of iron, will get more strength, and if it be smeered or neglected, it will lose its forces. I oft saw with great delight a loadstone wrapt up in burning coles that sent forth a blue flame that smelt of brimstone and iron, and that being dissipated, it lost its quality of its soul that was gone - namely, its attractive vertue. It is the stink of iron and brimstone, as such who destroy iron by reducing it to a calx or use other chymical operations can easily try. And I thought that the same soul, put into another body, must necessarily obtain the same faculty.
